Markus Menz is an Assistant Professor of Strategic Management at the University of St. Gallen’s Institute of Management. He is also the Executive Director of the Diploma of Advanced Studies Program in General Management and a Member of the Steering Committee of the Profile Unit "Responsible Corporate Competitiveness (RoCC)". He teaches undergraduate, graduate, and executive courses on management innovation and strategy. Before, he was a Senior Research Fellow & Lecturer in Business Administration (2009-2010) and a Research Associate (2006-2008) at the same University. From 2008 to 2009, he spent a year as Visiting Fellow at Harvard University (Graduate School of Arts and Sciences/Harvard Business School). He holds a Ph.D. in Strategic Management (summa cum laude) and an M.A. in Banking & Finance from the University of St. Gallen, as well as a B.B.A. from the University of Liechtenstein.

His research focuses on the role of the corporate center in multibusiness firms, management innovation, mergers & acquisitions, and top management teams. He frequently presents his findings at academic conferences such as Academy of Management Annual Meetings or Strategic Management Society (SMS) Annual International Conferences. He published several book chapters, articles in practitioner journals, case studies, and co-edited a book on mergers & acquisitions. For his research, he received several awards and scholarships. He was awarded a Highly Commended Award of the 2009 Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Awards. Further, he was nominated for the Best Conference Paper Award of the SMS 29th Annual International Conference in Washington DC. In 2008, he received a scholarship by the Swiss National Science Foundation for his stay at Harvard Business School. Further, he was awarded a Philip Law Scholarship by the European Case Clearing House (ecch).

Since 2006, he is also an independent consultant and advises firms in various industries on strategy, management innovation, and organization design issues. Further, he gained business experience in investment banking, for example in Transaction Advisory Services (M&A) with Ernst & Young in Zurich, in Leveraged Finance with HVB Group (today UniCredit Group) in New York, and in Equity Derivatives Trading with a start-up investment firm in Munich.
